Weight: 0.33 ounce (one third of an ounce) each stake.
We sell these stakes in packages of twelve pieces. Ten to carry with you when camping and hiking, and two to leave at home, for spares. The spares will come in handy if you loose one.
I carry ten stakes when thru-hiking, but very seldom use all ten.
As detailed in our Tarp Book Essential, we tie each stake to the tarp line using a "Butterfly Clove Hitch." This knot is easy to learn, and the book will you how to tie this incredibly useful knot, quickly and easily. Or if new to tarp pitching, you can use an ordinary clove hitch.
We usually don't pound these stakes into the ground, but instead simply press them into the ground by hand. Very rarely we will have to pound a ridge line stake to the hilt, and for this we might use a rock or larger stick. These stakes will handle a fair amount of abuse, but will bend if hammered too hard. In that case, you can straighten them back out by laying the bent stake on a flat rock, and pound it straight with a hammer. However, for the vast majority of cases, the stakes can be pressed into the ground by hand.
