Ray's Iron Butt Ride #19
50CC #2
4,718 miles, x hrs x min
Dec , 2024
I'm in the planning stages for this next ride, but am waiting for a good weather window. So far I can't see anything coming up. But anyway, I will be ready to ride when the weather looks good.
"Ray, as I have said before, you are an inspiration to all of us!" -Michael Kneebone, President and Founder: Iron Butt Association - "World's Toughest Motorcycle Riders"
When the map doesn't have any data yet, it defaults to the programmer's location: Nashville. At my first gas stop I'll turn on my Zoleo and start sending data to this map.
Iron Butt Motto: "World's Toughest Riders"
"Ridiculously Tough." Jenny says. "I don't know anyone else who would try something like that."
My objective for this nineteenth Iron Butt ride is another 50CC Cannonball (Coast to Coast).
Woke up early this morning (2024-12-04) thinking about my motorcycle's driveshaft. BMW had a recall on this item, due at 36k miles. My bike has 46K. I had a feeling that I better get it replaced ahead of my upcoming coast-to-coast ride. I've been thinking that for months, but today it seemed more urgent. Got out of bed, emptied the ashes out of the wood stove, and grabbed a few papers to use as fire starters, one of which was an envelope addressed to Jenny with no return address. Typical spam, but I opened it - and was shocked to read the words "driveshaft recall." What!? The letter was from BMW advising me to replace the driveshaft on my bike (at no cost to me) and even had my VIN number. I asked Jenny when did we receive this? "Yesterday," she replied. "What's it doing in the junk pile?" "I thought it was for one of your old bikes," she said.
Jenny made an appointment for a replacement at our nearest BMW Motorcycle dealer - three hours away in Albuquerque. The earliest opening was a week away.
